The Gambia’s national oil company is calling for stronger regional NOC partnerships to advance onshore exploration as MSGBC countries scale up seismic acquisition, frontier drilling and major offshore developments

DAKAR, Senegal, December 10, 2025/APO Group/ –The Gambia’s national oil company (NOC), Gambia National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has urged regional NOCs in West Africa to partner on accelerating exploration across the country’s onshore acreage.

The call was made by Cany Jobe, Director of Exploration and Production at GNPC, during the Leveraging Frontier Discoveries for Growth in West Africa panel at MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 in Dakar on December 9.

“We are looking for partners to help us de-risk the onshore and bolster regional collaboration with NOCs, including Petrosen,” Jobe said, adding, “Onshore is where we are lagging, and we do not have much data there.”

Petrosen – Senegal’s NOC – noted that less than 10% of the MSGBC Basin has been explored and highlighted efforts to expand activities into deeper waters, where additional 3D seismic data is required.

“We see a lot of similarity in our basin with other world-class basins throughout the world, which gives us a lot of confidence,” said Abu Mbengue, Director of Exploration and Promotion, Petrosen E&P.

The MSGBC basin is one of the greatest basins in the world and we have immense potential regarding oil and gas

Mauritania’s NOC, Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH), underscored the country’s track record of 11 oil and gas discoveries from more than 80 wells onshore and offshore. The NOC emphasized the scale of recent data acquisition, with over 100,000 km² of 3D seismic data now available.

“If you see the offshore of Mauritania, all petroleum systems are working well,” said Hammadi EL Hadji, Exploration Director, SMH. “The MSGBC basin is one of the greatest basins in the world and we have immense potential regarding oil and gas.”

Energy data and intelligence firm TGS – which holds one of the world’s largest multi-client libraries of geophysical and geological data – announced that it is preparing new vessels for deployment in West Africa. The company is also introducing low-frequency data sources to enhance data richness and resolution.

“Seismic is our business and we are very much built in the multi-client model,” said Robert Holden, Vice President – Africa, Mediterranean and Middle East, TGS, adding, “We also have enhancements in satellites, storage and cloud technologies.”

Elsewhere in the MSGBC region, Guinea-Bissau is experiencing renewed offshore exploration activity, driven by entries from major international companies including Apus Energy. The company holds the shallow-water Sinapa and Esperança licenses, where a well was drilled in 2024 and a potential follow-up well is under consideration for 2027.

“We have embarked on a journey to deliver a well offshore Guinea-Bissau,” said Michael Mosesyan, Drilling Manager at Apus Energy. “While we have not hit the same volumes as the Sangomar oil field, we did encounter some oil plays in the Sinapa and Esperança licenses.”

Building on the Sangomar oilfield in Senegal and the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG development along the Senegal-Mauritania maritime border, the MSGBC Basin has seen substantial growth in offshore investment. As operator of the GTA project, bp confirmed it is working with both governments to deliver Phase 2, with start-up targeted for 2027.

“In terms of future phases, bp, its partners and the governments of Senegal and Mauritania are working together to unlock the next phase in the best possible way,” said Mariama Ndao, Deputy Country Manager-Senegal, bp. “We are laser-focused in our mission to deliver the next chapter of the GTA project.”

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 5 November 2026 – Education leaders from around the world gathered in Hong Kong for the World Class University Presidents Forum 2026 (November 4-5), further enhancing the city’s prestige as a global hub for higher education and promoting academic collaboration and exchanges.

University presidents, renowned scholars and international education leaders representing more than one-third of the world’s top 50 universities joined the Forum, which was held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). They discussed key issues such as talent cultivation in the intelligent age, technology and innovation driving the future economy, and universities’ response to major global challenges.

Speaking at the opening ceremony (November 4), Chan Kwok-ki, Acting Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said the Forum’s theme, “Higher Education Reimagined: Innovating for the Future” reflects the current global environment.

“We live in an age of rapid technological change, systemic economic shifts, and unprecedented global challenges,” Mr Chan said. “In this transformative landscape, universities are no longer just communities of learning and skills development. They are engines of innovation, guardians of truth, and architects of our collective future.”

Mr Chan noted that higher education has always been a vital pillar of Hong Kong’s success, with the city being home to five universities that are ranked among the world’s top 100. Also, the latest QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027 (November 3), listed five Hong Kong universities in Asia’s top 10, and three in Asia’s top five, further demonstrating the strength of Hong Kong’s higher education system.

“This is not by chance,” Mr Chan said. “It is the result of sustained government investment, clear policy direction and the hard work of our universities.”

Serving as a bridge between East and West, Hong Kong offers a fertile ecosystem characterised by internationalisation and diversification, which brings global talent together to address shared global challenges.

“Alongside signature international events such as the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference and Exhibition held in February, the World Class University Presidents Forum 2026 forms part of a strategic series of signature initiatives promoting the ‘Study in Hong Kong’ brand worldwide, underscoring the city’s role as a key driver shaping the future of global higher education,” said Dr Choi Yuk-lin, the Secretary for Education of the HKSAR.

Rainforest Ecosystem

HAIKOU, CHINA – Media OutReach Newswire – 3 November 2026 – From Nov. 18 to 22, 2026, a global gathering dedicated to protecting the Earth’s “green lungs” will take place in Haikou, Hainan Province, China: the 2026 Tropical Rainforest Ecosystem Partners Conference.

From the vast Amazon rainforest to the dense forests of the Congo Basin and the diverse landscapes of the Malay Archipelago, representative rainforests from around the world will come together with the National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest for dialogue and exchange. Under the theme “Global Treasures · Shared Future,” the conference embodies humanity’s shared commitment to protecting rainforests and pursuing sustainable development.

Tropical rainforests cover less than one-tenth of the Earth’s land area, yet they are home to more than half of the world’s plant and animal species. Hainan, China’s only tropical island province, is home to the country’s largest, most concentrated and best-preserved contiguous tropical rainforest on a continental island. Established in 2021, the National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest covers more than 4,269 square kilometers and protects over 95 percent of Hainan Island’s primary forests. Its forest coverage rate remains stable at 95.9 percent, while both its water and air quality excellence rates stand at 100 percent.

Over the past five years, this rainforest has continued to witness remarkable ecological achievements. The Hainan gibbon population has grown to 44 individuals across seven groups, making it the only gibbon population in the world to have shown sustained growth.

In addition, 91 previously undocumented wild plant and animal species have been recorded in the park. An integrated space-air-ground ecological monitoring system now provides round-the-clock, comprehensive monitoring and protection of the rainforest ecosystem. The “Bawangling Model” for Hainan gibbon conservation has also been recognized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a global model for protecting rare species.

The conference will explore how forests can serve as reservoirs of water, sources of food, generators of economic value and carbon sinks. Two keynote forums and four parallel forums will be held, bringing together participants for in-depth discussions on key topics, including water conservation and aquatic ecological security, the sustainable use of forest food resources, ways to unlock the value of ecological products, and carbon management in rainforests. The discussions will foster exchanges of ideas and the sharing of experience.

The conference will also focus on Hainan’s efforts to seek dual World Heritage recognition for its natural and cultural heritage. It will bring together global expertise to support the nomination of the Hainan Tropical Rainforest and the Traditional Settlement of Li Ethnic Group for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a mixed natural and cultural heritage property. The initiative will explore new approaches to rainforest governance that uphold ecological protection as a firm priority while bringing tangible benefits to local communities.

In addition to the conference sessions, a series of supporting events will be held. “Rainforest Night,” a showcase of Hainan’s intangible cultural heritage, will offer an immersive audiovisual experience showcasing the distinctive traditions of the Li and Miao ethnic groups. The “Hidden Realms · Shared Life” Hainan Tropical Rainforest Photography Exhibition and the “Gifts of Nature” Ecological Products Market will showcase the rainforest’s natural beauty and innovative ways of turning ecological resources into tangible benefits. Field expeditions into the Hainan Tropical Rainforest, media tours, and the public-interest initiative “Breathe Deep in the Rainforest · Protect Our Shared Habitat” will take participants deep into the rainforest to experience the vitality of its ecosystems.

As the Hainan Free Trade Port approaches the first anniversary of the launch of island-wide special customs operations and the National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest marks its fifth anniversary, this conference will serve as China’s green calling card to the world and provide a platform for international dialogue and cooperation on rainforest conservation.
